Intelligent Medicine with Dr. Ronald Hoffman - The Remarkable Potential of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Written by Hyperbaric Medical Solutions | 5/04/16

Medical Director, Dr. Henry Prince and Medical Advisor, Dr. Scott Sherr joined Dr. Ronald Hoffman on his Intelligent Medicine Podcast for an extensive conversation about the remarkable potential of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). Discussed in the hour are many of the conventional applications of HBOT like healing diabetic foot ulcers, poorly-healing wounds, and deep-seated bone infections.

Also discussed are many conditions where HBOT has shown positive results but are currently considered "off-label" in the United States, including chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS), Lyme disease, neuro-developmental disorders, post-stroke, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-concussion syndrome, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, sudden-onset hearing and vision loss, even cancer (to augment conventional therapies like radiation or as an adjunct to the ketogenic diet).

The common denominator seems to be where lack of circulation, poor healing, and inflammation inhibit recovery. Also discussed are the differences between mild (or soft chamber) HBOT and hard chamber HBOT (which we use at HMS), the safety considerations, HBOT candidacy and contraindications, and the treatment experience.
